.... You can deduce and infer that other people are conscious of you. They say 'hi' when you show up. They comment on the new shirt you're wearing. They ask your advice on what to do about a troublesome acquaintance. But none of that constitutes a direct experience of the other's awareness of you. In truth, you never, ever have the direct experience that any object of perception, including another person, is aware of you. Let's be precise here. What I mean is that you do not directly (subjectively) experience another's awareness of you. You can only deduce that they are aware of you based on your perception of their interaction with you.
The jaw dropping thing about awareness is that everything described above is true for every single one of us. Quantum physicist, Amit Goswami, proposes that there is only One Consciousness. Each one of us is a spontaneously occurring collapse of quantum wave functions, producing, simultaneously, a constituted subject (personal me) and everything of which that 'me' is aware (hello, all objects).
When we fully appreciate this ordinary miracle of how the transcendent absolute of Awareness activates all perception, a revolution in human consciousness will occur that will make Copernicus wish he had been born a thousand years later, or ten thousand, or however long it's going to take. Which begs the interesting question: why is it taking so long?
One possible answer, humbly submitted for your consideration:
Awareness is absolutely NOT anything that can be discovered, found, located, identified, measured, summed up, pigeon holed or, shudder, converted into a commodity. Awareness is way too active to ever be anything less than that which makes possible experience itself. Forget the light at the end of the tunnel. Forget the light at the end of the birth canal. The omnipresent light of awareness is the absolute miracle without which experience cannot occur. And it is not findable.
It does all the finding. Everything awareness finds is utterly empty of independent existence in relation to
awareness and is, in turn, be-held by awareness in love that we cannot even begin to imagine.
